bad business habits

We’re a few weeks into 2017, and hopefully, you’re caught up from the holidays. If you are, it’s the perfect time to start afresh and kick all of your bad business habits to the curb. Here are a few bad business habits that hinder most organization’s success. Use the beginning of 2017 to give them up for good.

Bad Business Habits to Give up in 2017

At best a bad business habit is annoying to your ideal customer. At worst, it will cost you sales. It’s time to discard bad habits and create some good ones.

Stop Trying to Be all Things to All Buyers

There are people you’re a good fit for and people you should encourage to shop elsewhere. When someone is a good fit, you can meet their needs successfully and they’ll be loyal to you because of this. A bad fit is like that Cinderella story. Sure, the stepsisters might have been able to shove their feet into the glass slipper but they wouldn’t have been able to put up with it for long.

When you try to be all things to all buyers, you’re trying to make something work that ultimately will let you both down. Instead, find your niche and stick to it.

Stop Doing It All and Delegate Better

Many business owners think they delegate but what they really do is assign tasks to other people and then instruct them on exactly how to do it. This is not delegating, this is shifting blame. If you have competent employees, tell them what needs to be done and why, and by when. Then step out of the way and watch their creativity surprise you.

Get Out of the Rut and Start Learning Something New

Learn something new every day. It will keep you young, bring good things to your business, and help you see larger connections. Whether it’s technology, social media, a book, or a hundred other things to learn or pick up, challenge yourself daily. Some of the new things you’ll learn you’ll incorporate into your business, others you’ll learn and decide not to use, but you’ll have a much more well-rounded view of what’s possible.

What do you think? Will 2017 be the year for you to get out of your business rut and pick up some new habits? What are you focused on?
