The Dearborn Area Chamber in Dearborn, Mich., has launched Gift Local Chamber Bucks,  a community currency program powered by Conpoto.

Wendy Fitcher, Vice President of the Dearborn Area Chamber and Director of Small Business Development, identifies the program as an opportunity to tangibly support local spending. “We always hear, ‘Think global. Shop local.’ This program really drives that home.”

Local businesses generate more economic activity than national chains

Jackie Lovejoy, President of the Dearborn Area Chamber, discussed the community currency program with her board, local employers and local merchants. “When you explain the program to them, you can see a light bulb go on in their head.” Lovejoy said, “They think, ‘This will solve a lot of issues for me this year. We can support the local economy in an efficient manner.”

“We think it’s going to be a great program,” says Lovejoy, “It’s a win for the retailer, a win for the chamber and a win for our large employers. With some of the state’s largest employers right in our back yard, our goal is to drive hundreds of thousands of dollars to our merchant membership. Our large employers want to support our community, we now have a easy way they can do it.”
